If you’re an SMS Aggregator or a Mobile Service Provider (MSP) handling bulk SMS messages on behalf of businesses or organisations, you need to register the SMS Sender IDs in use by those organisations with ComReg before 20 December 2024.
In time, text messages with unregistered SMS Sender IDs will be blocked. Protect your customers, be scam safe, and avoid disruption to your business by registering existing SMS Sender IDs now.
SMS (text) messaging is crucial for organisations to keep in touch with their customers and clients. But, with text scams on the rise, trust in SMS messaging is eroding. SMS messages often include a name or number to indicate who sent the message – this is called the SMS Sender ID.
If you don’t register existing SMS Sender IDs now, your business customers will need to do this in 2025 to ensure their messages with SMS Sender IDs are not blocked.
SMS Aggregators and MSPs can now participate in ComReg’s SMS Sender ID Registry which aims to protect SMS communications and prevent fraudsters from using spoofed SMS Sender IDs to conduct text scams. The Registry aims to future-proof SMS as a reliable and trustworthy communications channel for businesses and organisations in Ireland.
Email senderid@comreg.ie to register now.
For more information on how to register SMS Sender IDs and participate in this important work, see ComReg 24/97 “Implementation and Communications Plan for ComReg’s SMS Sender ID Registry – Information for SMS Aggregators and Mobile Service Providers.”
Organisations using SMS Sender IDs in their messages to customers should instruct their SMS Aggregator or MSP to register those SMS Sender IDs now.
