In December 2020 ComReg published its Decision. ComReg has decided that there is no longer a need for the imposition of a universal service public payphone obligation. Consumer needs are being met in other ways, including by payphones provided commercially. ComReg will continue to monitor the provision of public payphones ensuring that they remain affordable, and satisfy the reasonable needs of consumers, and will intervene, if necessary, to ensure this.
