Eircom Ltd (“Eir”) makes payment following an investigation by ComReg

Eircom Ltd (“Eir”) has paid ComReg €1,500 following an investigation by ComReg into the promotion, content and operation of its premium rate services (“PRS”). ComReg believes that Eir operated PRS on the 1530 277 100 premium rate number without holding the relevant licence and has therefore committed an offence contrary to Section 12 of the Communications Regulation (Premium Rate Services and Electronic Communications Infrastructure) Act, 2010. The payment of €1,500 to ComReg has been made under Section 44 of the Communications Regulation Acts 2002 to 2011 (“Act of 2002”) and will in turn be passed on to the Exchequer by ComReg1 . As well as making this payment to ComReg, Eir has conducted an internal audit of its PRS for the purposes of ensuring that it holds the relevant PRS licences for its PRS. Eir has also agreed to refund any end user connected to this non-compliance.
